Nic and I woke up early Sunday morning and bundled up for our first ever 5K. Let me tell you, waking up early on a cold Sunday morning was probably the hardest part of the entire race. Despite our sleepy states, we threw on our Santa Hustle sweatshirts, hats, and beards and made our way downtown.

The crisp morning and electric atmosphere made it a perfect day for a race! At 9:30 on the dot, 2,130 runners took off from the starting line at White River State Park and onto a 3.1 mile path winding through downtown Indianapolis.

The treat stations along the way were one of my favorite parts. Seriously, there were M&M and cookie stations! Hello, best race ever. Although, let’s just say, there is totally a reason why I don’t usually eat tiny candies and run simultaneously (choke much?) … but hey, I loved the sweet motivation.

32 minutes after the race began, Nic and I crossed the finish line. Okay, Nic crossed 10 seconds before me, but that's beside the point. Feeling accomplished and slightly out of breath, we headed back home to spend the rest of the day curled up napping on the couch.

We had a great time! You never know, maybe next year we will attempt the Santa Hustle half marathon.
